Swan Photo Gallery II

Spreading Their Wings!

Hey Honey!!! Let's go!!! I think I see Chris and Sugar over there!!! - They fly right over to me now.
Hello and thank you for flying Scandinavian Airlines. We are currently on approach to Farmington Aqua Airport and expect a smooth landing. OK, the landing gear is down... How's it lookin'?
She's breaking up!!! She's breaking up!!! I can't keep her together... cxxxxxx cxxxxxxx... We can rebuild him. We can make him faster... stronger... better... The six million dollar swan!!!
Houston we have touch down. The swan has landed.
One small step for bird. One giant splash for mankind.
Now that we have rebuilt him. We must test our bionic bird...
Da da da da da da... na na na na... Slow motion sequence ensues... He's so fast now he can run across the water!
Hey! Whoa!!! These bionics are making me feel a little disoriented... Wait a second... Oh, now I see what's wrong...
And, this shot is one in six million!!! Unbelievable, huh? Really, I took that picture!!!
The bionic swan says "Damn I'm good and don't you know it too!"
OK. Here are some more photos of the male swan landing on different days, as he flies over to greet me.
My lense does not have enough magnification to get a really good shot when he is taking off, but it is pretty funny to watch.
He sure does look funny on touch down. You should see him paddling his feet across the top of the water as he touches down. It looks like he is running across the water!
Nice one, huh?
He got good splash on this one! And, a good reflection too!
How could we have known when these pictures were first posted that the cob would be beaten so badly by humans that he would no longer be able to fly.
He decided he was a little off course at the last moment and almost bought it on this one when he nearly indulged in the impulse to change direction while landing! Makes for a cool picture, though, huh?
Last year's offspring flies by for a visit to Mom & Dad... if they'll let him land while they are nesting!
A full grown swan's wing span is nearly six feet wide.
Besides that they are quiet most of the time, mute swans gained their name also because they are quiet when they are flying. All you can hear is the force of their giant wings flapping through the air with a smooth, long stroke.
"Are you talkin' to me? Hey buddy, ya you! I said 'Are you talkin' to me?' !!! You'd better watch your step mister!" And, believe me, now that the female is nesting, he isn't kidding around!
This goose obviously wasn't listening!
I told you he wasn't kidding!
Mr. Goose is running out of lake to fly over. Better find some place else to make all that noise!
Sleepy time is over. Time to stretch our wings!
The wing brushed my face as it went by and I took this picture. That's how close he is!
You would not believe how tall he is when he is standing up like this... maybe near to 5' to 6'.
Just for you Katie! I know this will be your favorite! You wouldn't believe how long I had to wait for it!
