DAVID’S BIO: David was born on October 27, 1933 in Newark, NJ. After his father died, he spent his early years in a Catholic orphanage. He ran away from the orphanage at age 16 and joined the United States Air Force where he served two enlistments for a total of eight years. After the military, David took odd jobs as a plumber, truck driver and ditch digger to support his family. By 1965, David was acting full time. His early credits included Dennis The Menace, Hazel and Where The Heart Is. In the late 1960’s, David appeared in a few westerns, including Up The MacGregors. In the early 1970’s, David began doing television work, appearing in dozens of commercials, anything from the now classic “man in bed” Mitchum one to Tonka. He also played a doctor on the primetime comedy “Temperatures Rising”. In 1973, Paul Rauch, the EP of Another World, recruited David to play the role of Dr. Russ Matthews. David was a replacement and it was only supposed to be for six months, however, it lasted for almost ten years. Even though, he was not the original Russ, David is the actor most associated with the character. After AW, David had roles on The Guiding Light, As The World Turns, Ryan’s Hope, Kate & Allie, The Equalizer, Law and Order and Hack. He also appeared in numerous stage productions including Pal Joey, Orphans, Thief River, and Camping with Henry and Tom. In 1994, David appeared in Above The Rim with 2PAC and Duane Martin as “Coach Rollins” which made him recognizable to the hip hop generation. Most recently, David appeared in Something The Lord Made, Hack and Passions. David had only been on Passions for two months as Alistair Crane but made an unforgettable, lasting impression. For nearly 25 years, David volunteered for various charities including the St Judes Children’s Hospital which he did every year with Danny Thomas. He also owned the Black Book Theatre company which helped to benefit corporate groups, college students and at risk youth groups. His last interview was with SoapNet in which he seemed happy to be playing villain Alistair Crane. He said “This is fantastic”! At this point in my career to be handed something like this is truly a gift”. “I just having so much damn fun with him.” Over the years, David earned a reputation among his peers as being one of the nicest guys in the business on screen and off. I certainly feel that is true, since he helped me out and doesn’t know me personally. Thanks David.
