A little girl is running through the woods towards the moon and wants to comfort it because she believes the moon is crying. She stops and sees that she's lost and then sees that someone is there and asks who it is. The boy turns around and says, "I was watching the moon cry."
PRESENT - Hitomi's ex-boyfriend, Kazuhiro, is following Hitomi and apologizes for cheating on her. He tells her that it wasn't serious and that Hitomi is the one he loves. Hitomi slaps him and tells him to leave her alone. It doesn't matter if it was 1 or 100 times. Cheating is cheating!
Hitomi goes shopping with her friends and her friends are amazed that Hitomi stayed with her boyfriend for 6 months this time. One of her friends asks her to meet someone because he's been dying to get a date with Hitomi. Hitomi tells her that she doesn't want to and that it's a bother. Then her other friend asks her if Hitomi's seen that "one dream" lately with "Atsuya Nagatsuki". Everytime Hitomi gets drunk, she talks about the dream and says, "I was betrayed!". Kasumi runs away from the question and tells her that that was all in the past when she was just a kid. She starts to remember about Atsuya Nagatsuki again and has a flashback to that time*******Hitomi agrees that the moon is crying and aks the boy to go chase after it with her to comfort it. The boy tells her that it's already too late, so they should start heading back home. He asks her where she came from and Hitomi isn't really sure. She remembers that it's near a house with a big cross and they boy tells her that she's probably talking about the church and starts to walk her home. Hitomi asks him what his name is and he looks a bit sad and stumbles before telling her that his name is Atsuya Nagatsuki. His last name (in kanji) meaning "Eternity Moon". Hitomi hears her parents calling out her name and tells him that she has to go. They make a promise to come back to the same place, same time next year to comfort the moon together.*******
PRESENT - Hitomi is at a club thinking that kids are amazing to make such promises. Some guys buy Hitomi a drink and Hitomi smiles at them as the guys are taken away by her charm. Hitomi's friends ask if she wants to go sit with them, but Hitomi takes off to the dance floor. As Hitomi is dancing, her friends start to talk about her saying how Hitomi is fast at changing men and wonder if she's ever loved anyone.
The next day, Hitomi's friend tells her that she's found someone named Atsuya Nagatsuki and tells her that she has set up a "compa" (a social gathering between guys and girls), so she tells Hitomi to come too. Hitomi's heart starts to race and she tells herself that her heart is only beating because she's interested in what he looks like now.
At the "compa", Hitomi meets this Atsuya Nagatsuki, but it is not the Atsuya-kun that she knows (because the kanji spelled different, as in "Long Moon"). Hitomi starts to feel stupid for getting hyped up and pampering herself before coming to the "compa". She's told herself numerous times before to not have such high hopes.
At a club, Hitomi is dancing again and her friends notice that Hitomi is more hyper than usual. Hitomi is mad at herself for thinking about the past too much and decides to have fun with all the guys that are surrounding her. A glass shatters on the ground and Hitomi gets scared and wonders what's going on. Kazuhiro is drunk and mad/jealous at Hitomi for flirting with other guys. Hitomi tells him they broke up and some guys ask Hitomi who Kazuhiro is. Kazuhiro gets even more mad and is about to hit Hitomi to get revenge on her (for slapping him in public before). Hitomi tells him to let her go and is about to get hit, but a guy/employee stops Kazuhiro's hand and tells him to stop all this mess and take the fight outside since he's imposing trouble on all the other customers. Kazuhiro gets angry and tries to let go, but the man slams him against the wall and tells him that girls are meant to cherish, not hit around and tells him to leave. Kasumi goes up to thank him and then she hears the man's boss say, "Thanks, Nagatsuki! You saved us." Kasumi's heart starts to beat and asks him if his last name written as "Long Moon". The man replies, "Nope, it's written as 'Eternity Moon'. I'm Atsuya Nagatsuki." Hitomi has finally found him! Hitomi asks him if he remembers her and Atsuya gives her some Gin Lime mouth to mouth. Hitomi is suprised at first, but is taken over by his kiss. Atsuya tells her that he remembers her and that he's happy that she remembered a guy like him. He tells her to wait for him in the parking lot after the club closes. Hitomi is so happy that he remembered that she doesn't even care if he never showed up anymore.
At the parking lot, Hitomi meets up with Atsuya and Hitomi is so happy that she doesn't know what to start talking about. Then, Atsuya shocks her by asking, "So, when and where did I meet you, Hitomi-chan?" He pushes her down to the hood of the car and tells her that he doesn't care anyway since he thinks that she probably just said that to pick him up anyway. He starts to kiss her on the neck as Kasumi tells him to stop. Atsuya asks her why she's acting when he knows that she enjoyed the kiss. He continues on with his kissing and touching and Hitomi starts to panick and in her thoughts, she doesn't want to shatter the memories of her "Atsuya-kun". She shrieks, "NOOOOOOOO!" and starts to cry. Atsuya asks her if she's a virgin and Hitomi slaps him. She runs off yelling, "You're not my Atsuya-kun! I hate you!" Atsuya is confused and remembers wiping off her tears.
As Hitomi is running, she can't believe what an asshole that guy was it is sure that that is not the "Atsuya-kun" that she knows. She starts to feel sick and throws up at a nearby fountain. Hitomi starts to cry about the Atsuya-kun she used to know. That day, she waited in the rain until he would show up, but he never came. Ever since that, she hasn't been able to trust anyone and if she did become serious with someone, she would get scared that they would leave her. She cries, "...where did you go? Why didn't you come? She passes out at the fountain thinking that she'll never be able to move forward unless Atsuya-kun comes to her.
The next morning, Hitomi wakes up with a hang over. She tries to remember what happened the night before and realizes that she's not at her apartment. She looks next to her and sees Atsuya Nagatsuki!
Part 2
Hitomi panicks and wonders why she's sleeping next to Atsuya. Atsuya tells her where her clothes are and tells her not to worry because he didn't do anything to her. Hitomi remembers passing out at the fountain and wonders if he had come after to find her. She starts to think that maybe he's a nice guy after all. She looks around his room and notices a lot of difficult-looking books and a computer. She decides that it's just all there as a decoration. Atsuya asks her if she's going to school and asks her if she wants to get something to eat on the way. He adds in that he doesn't like women standing in his kitchen an Hitomi gets mad.
During breakfast, Hitomi tells Atsuya about the "Atsuya-kun" she's looking for and Atsuya tells her that it's not him and wishes he could've seen Hitomi when she was a child, thinking she was probably really cute. Hitomi is suprised that he would say that and says sarcastically, "Are you trying to seduce me now?" Atsuya gives her a serious look and says, "I'm not that free in the mornings. I really thought that, so that's why I said it." Hitomi gets a little embarassed. Then Atsuya adds, "Plus, I'm not into virgins." Hitomi gets mad at him leaves. Some girls notice that Atsuya is with a girl and sees that it's Hitomi Kahara, the girl that goes to their school.
During lunch, at school, Hitomi's friends notice that Hitomi's wearing the same outfit from the night before and ask her if she stayed over at a guy's house. One of her friends start talking about Atsuya and how good-looking he was. The other friend says that Atsuya Nagatsuki is pretty popular around that area. Hitomi wonders if he's popular because he's an asshole. All of sudden, the girl (from earlier, that noticed Hitomi) splashes a glass of water at Hitomi. Then she says, "Oops, I'm sorry. My hand just slipped." She walks off complaining about Hitomi taking all the guys at school and then flirting with more outside of school. Hitomi's friend tells Hitomi that that girl is Eiko Masahara and there's a rumor that she follows Atsuya around everywhere. Hitomi thinks about how much trouble Eiko has to go through with Atsuya. Then she wonders if Atsuya has a girlfriend and wants to know what kind of girl can make him fall in love her.
Hitomi goes to her part-time job and sees that Eiko is on the same job too. She decides to try to ignore her to avoid trouble. While Hitomi walks down a hallway, she hears some voices talking about her in a room and realizes it's Eiko. She hears Eiko say that Hitomi is following her boyfriend Atsuya and Hitomi gets pissed, slams open the door and says, "Who tried to pick up 'your boyfriend'? It bothers you so much that I date a lot of guys, huh? Why don't you count how many days you come home in a month?" Kasumi storms out of the room and is mad that Eiko called Atsuya her boyfriend. Then she stops and wonders why she's so mad about that asshole.
During the show (her job is to sit on the set in a bikini), she notices that the guest is a foreigner, but thinks that the translator is more handsome than the foreigner. Then she realizes that it's Atsuya! She can't believe that he's in a suit, wearing glasses, and talking to a foreigner! Eiko calls over to Atsuya, but he ignores and Hitomi lets out a sigh of relief. Again, she starts to wonder why she even sighed a relief. Hitomi goes up to Atsuya after the show and tells him that she thought all those hard books and computer were in his room just for show. Atsuya tells her that he's still learning, but he got this job through a friend and translates on the show once a week. Hitomi tells him that she's suprised that he can translate and that the glasses and suit make him look like a different person. Atsuya let's out a nice smile and tells her that girls aren't the only ones who can change their image. Hitomi is suprised to see him smile and wonders where he's hidden that smile all this time. Someon calls Atsuya and he tells her bye as he puts out his cigarette. Hitomi notices that the cigarette isn't out all the way and picks up the cigarette and puts it in her mouth. It starts to remind her of their kiss.
Atsuya is getting yelled at by the foreigner and director for something and Atsuya tells them, "Fine, I understand. I will leave. Sorry for all the trouble." Hitomi goes after him and asks him if he's quitting. He tells her he got fired and she asks him why. He tells her to leave him alone and keep out of his business and leaves. Hitomi is upset that he is so cold.
As Hitomi is changing in the locker, Eiko stops by and tells her that Atsuya is waiting for her in a room. HItomi hurries to the room and looks around, but the foreigner comes in and locks the door behind him.
Eiko sees Atsuya leaving and asks him if he wants to go home together. Atsuya notices Hitomi's bikini and asks Eiko if she's still in the building. Eiko says that she probably is and makes a comment about the foreigner wanting a piece of Hitomi. Atsuya slams the lockers, corners Eiko and asks her where Hitomi is. Eiko starts to badmouth Hitomi and Atsuya slaps her, telling her that Hitomi's not that kind of person. He asks again where Hitomi is.
Hitomi tries to get away from the foreigner and is mad at herself for believing Eiko. Atsuya busts open the door and tells the foreigner that it's "GAMER OVER". Atsuya is about to punch the foreigner, but the director tries to stop him. While all this is going on, Hitomi asks Atsuya's friend why he got fired. His friend tells her that the foreigner wanted Atsuya to tell Hitomi that he wanted to sleep with her, but Atsuya refused to do so. Atsuya grabs Hitomi's hand and gets her out of there.
Outside, near a bench, Hitomi asks why Atsuya helped her and he simply tells her that it was a caprice of the moment. She sees Atsuya smoking and it reminds her of the kiss again. She can't figure out whether Atsuya is a good guy or bad guy, but she kisses him and thanks him. Atsuya carries her onto his lap as they continue kissing.
Part 3
Hitomi is in wonder about how she feels for Atsuya. She thinks that he's an asshole, but she is moved by his kisses.
Out by her neighborhood, some neighbors talk about a burgulary that's been going on and one of the neighbors wishes she had a boyfriend living with for these types of sitations. Hitomi begins to wonder if Atsuya has a girlfriend. Then she stops herself from thinking and tells herself that it doesn't matter to her.
She feels bad about Atsuya losing his job because of her, so she decides to stop by his school to thank him. She spots Atsuya, but notices a woman with him. She hides by the bench. She assumes that it's his girlfriend and Hitomi realizes that she doesn't know anything about Atsuya. Once again, she tells herself that it doesn't matter to her because she's not in love with Atsuya.
At night, Hitomi goes to the club (where Atsuya works at) with a guy. The guy is really happy that Hitomi finally decided to go out with him. They start to kiss, but Hitomi has a flashback of her and Atsuya kissing and pushes her date away. She apologizes to him and tells him that she doesn't want to continue with the date. The guy/date gets mad and takes off.
Hitomi sits at the bar thinks about how horrible she is. She feels bad for hurting her date, but she didn't feel anything with that kiss...not like Atsuya's kiss.
Atsuya comes up to Hitomi and scolds her for rejecting a guy after kissing him. Hitomi is embarassed that Atsuya saw what happened and starts to explain that the guy wasn't her boyfriend, but Atsuya tells her that it doesn't matter. He tells Hitomi that it's getting late and that she should go home. Hitomi gets mad and tells him to stop treating her like a child. Then she tells him that she doesn't want to go home because of a burglary that's been going on around her neighborhood, so she's staying out all night. After she gets done telling him, she gets a little embarassed for telling Atsuya that...it's like she wants him to pay attention to her. Hitomi gets up and is ready to leave. Atsuya stops her and throws her his car keys and tells her to wait for him in the parking lot so they could go driving 'til morning. Hitomi wonders why Atsuya even cares when she's not even his type...
As they are driving, Hitomi smells the scent of the woman that Atsuya was with earlier in the day. Hitomi wonders if they were together for long. Hitomi starts to long for Atsuya's love...Atsuya sees that Hitomi has a sad look on her face and calls her name. Hitomi snaps out of it and wonders why she was thinking all that. She tells him that she wants to go home. When they arrive at Hitomi's place, Atsuya tells her that he's going to stay there until he sees that Hitomi got to her apartment safely. Hitomi is a little suprised and says something sarcastic back to him. As she is walking up the stairs to her place, she wishes the stairs were longer. When she gets to her door, the door is unlocked. She wonders if she forgot to lock it. Then she sees a silohuette of a man and screams. Atsuya comes up and asks her what happened and Hitomi tells him that there was a man in her apartment. Atsuya hugs her and tells her to come stay over at his place. As she is hugging Atsuya, Hitomi realizes that she loves Atsuya...even if he has a girlfriend.
The next morning, Hitomi notices some "X" marks on Atsuya's calendar and asks him what that's all about. He tells her that he's counting down the days 'til he goes to Karuizawa with a bunch of his college friends. He says that he goes to Karuizawa every year anyway and that he used to go with his family a lot. Hitomi remembers "her Atsuya-kun" and jokingly asks Atsuya if he's really not the Atsuya-kun she's looking for. Atsuya gets serious and tells her that he would never make her wait like that.
At school, some of Hitomi's friends want to go on a trip and asks Hitomi where she wants to go. Hitomi thinks about it and decides to go to Karuizawa (the same time Atsuya is going).
When Hitomi and her friends get to Karuizawa, she has some flashbacks of "her Atsuya-kun" again. She tells herself that everyone knows about "her Atsuya-kun", but noone knows about what her and Atsuya-kun talked about..."the moon crying" is just their secret.
Hitomi realizes that she doesn't even know where Atsuya is staying and gets depressed. Some guys come up to Hitomi and her friends and they ask them if they want to hang out. Then Hitomi sees Atsuya (with the girl Hitomi saw him with before) and realizes that Atsuya's with the guys. The guys decide on all of them hanging out together.
Some girls from Atsuya's class mention how Atsuya and the girl he's with are childhood friends.
Later on, Hitomi sees Atsuya getting into his car and asks him where he's going. Atsuya tells her that he's going to the church and Hitomi asks if she can go to. Atsuya tells her no as Saki, the girl Atsuya's with, goes with him. Hitomi is hurt, but plays it off by saying that she's stupid for even asking. Atsuya apologizes.
In the car, Saki thanks Atsuya for taking her with him this time around and mentions how they're both doing what they want to do; her as a nurse and Atsuya as a tranlsator. Saki is concerned that about Hitomi is misunderstanding her and Atsuya. Atsuya tells Saki that everything's alright and that he'll talk to Hitomi later since what they're doing is priority. Atsuya says her full name and Saki is suprised to hear her name.
Hitomi's friends ask her to give back Saki's schedule book. Hitomi doesn't want to, but her friends push her to, so she reluctantly gives in. Some things fall out of Saki's schedule book and she notices a picture...it's of Saki and Atsuya-kun as kids! She remembers what Atsuya's college friends were saying about how Saki and Atsuya are childhood friends and wonders if it's Atsuya in the picture.
Hitomi goes over Atsuya's college friends' pension and has some dinner. One of the guys, Sakazaki, tries to make a move on Hitomi and Hitomi laughs it off. She goes out on the balcony and wonders what Atsuya is doing with Saki. Just then, Atsuya puts a scarf around Hitomi and tells her to go inside before she catches a cold. She tells him that she's looking at the moon. Atsuya looks up at the moon as well and says, "I was a kid when I thought the moon looked like it was crying." Hitomi is shocked and confirms that Atsuya is the "Atsuya-kun" that she waited for that one summer as a child. Hitomi asks Atsuya to meet her at 8 pm at the church.
Later on, Hitomi goes up to Sakazaki and asks him to take her to his room. They go to his bed as Hitomi thinks about her revenge on Atsuya. This time, she's going to make him wait.
It's midnight and Hitomi wonders if Atsuya is still waiting for her. She looks out the window and sees that it's snowing! She runs out to the church just in case Atsuya is still there and he is! Atsuya yells at her for making him wait so long. Hitomi starts to cry and Atsuya comforts her by saying that "her Atsuya-kun" didn't come, but he did. They kiss as Hitomi tells herself that she doesn't care if Atsuya doesn't remember the past anymore because he finally came.
Atsuya goes back to his pension and Sakazaki asks him to return Hitomi's earring to her. Atsuya is shocked and clenches the earring.
Hitomi goes back to her home town and tries calling Atsuya numerous times, but Atsuya never returns her phone calls. She wonders why and starts to get upset. To forget about it, she goes out to a club to have fun for old time's sake...but she doesn't have fun at all; not like she used to. All she can do is think of Atsuya.
Hitomi remembers that she had to return Saki's schedule book, so she's happy that she has an excuse to go to Atsuya's place. She rings the door bell to Atsuya's place, but noone answers, so she steps in. She hears Atsuya talking to Saki. Atsuya tells Saki that he does remember Hitomi now, but there's nothing he can do about it. Hitomi shuts the door and Atsuya is schocked to see her. Hitomi tells him that he doesn't have to do anything about it. She goes on to say that he's probably making fun of her now because she's been holding this grudge forever and he probably thinks she's childish. She also tells him that she loves him and takes off. Atsuya runs after her and tells her to get in his car. Hitomi is mad and asks him where he's taking her. Atsuya just tells her that he's taking her to see the real "Atsuya-kun".
They arrive in Karuizawa at a grave. Atsuya points at a grave and tells her that that's the real "Atsuya" and his real name Masato, Atsuya' older twin brother. Hitomi's heart thumps in shock. She doesn't understand and Atsuya explains that Masato was a sickly child and got admitted to the hospital in Karuizawa. One day Masato told Atsuya that he met a girl named Hitomi and she thought the same way as him....that "the moon was crying". Masato was real happy that someone thought the same way as him because Atsuya and Saki didn't pay much attention. Hitomi asks about Saki and Atsuya tells her that she's not his girlfriend; that she was a patient in the same room as Masato.
Back at Atsuya's place, Saki talks to Masato's picture and tells him that she loved him, but he was too into Hitomi Kahara.
Hitomi asks Atsuya when Masato passed away and Atsuya tells her that it was the year he met her in the winter. Hitomi wonders why Masato used Atsuya's name and Atsuya tells her it's probably because Masato envied Atsuya for being so healthy. He tells Hitomi that Masato probably didn't want to tell anyone about the promis with her because he was afraid that someone would take Hitomi away from him. Masato also told Saki that he'll take any pain, any medicine, as long as he can live 'til next summer. Hitomi begins to cry. Atsuya asks Hitomi to forgive Masato and of course, Hitomi understands and thanks Masato.
Atsuya feels something in his pocket and remembers about the earring that he had to give back to Hitomi. He hands the earring to her and Hitomi gets embarssed. Atsuya gets mad at her for having a one-night stand with a guy she doesn't even like and Hitomi explains to Atsuya that nothing happened. Hitomi asks why Atsuya was so mad that she slept with someone and Atsuya makes up an excuse that it's for his brother, Masato. Hitomi catches him on the excuse saying that it happened before Atsuya even knew about her and Masato. Then she asks Atsuya if he loves her after all. Atsuya pushes Hitomi's nose and tells her that he's not into virgins. Hitomi is determined to make Atsuya turn her way.
At school, Hitomi rejects a guy and her friends are shocked to see her rejecting all the men. Hitomi tells her friends that she has to go meet someone. Her friends ask if it's a date. Hitomi tells them it is, but it's an unrequited love. Hitomi's friends can't believe that she's actually serious about one man. Hitomi goes to meet up with Atsuya thinking that she doesn't have to cry looking up at the moon anymore and that she can fearlessly love someone now...
