**Pg. 98**

A cute guy in his 20s gets off a bus. The bus announces that it's Amabara, 4th block.

Sayoko remembers the time she stole her favorite Senpai's (older student) shoe string and that was when her love was over. At that time, she didn't know what love was yet.

The cute guy walks buy a married couple's house and the husband asks his wife if that was that guy that just walked by is the second of Oono's. The wife tells him that it couldn't be because the last time that son was in town, he had a big fight with his father and she heard that he's not allowed to come back to this town anymore. The cute guy overhears them and mumbles to himself, "Shut up".

Mika Sensei (teacher) catches Sayoko before she leaves school and asks her if she's going to skip chorus practice again. Sayoko tells her that she can't because her grandpa still isn't feeling well. Mika Sensei tells her that she knows that's a lie because she just saw her grandpa walking the other day and he looked fine. Tsukasa, Sayoko's friend, walks by and tells Mika Sensei that she has a run in her stockings. Mika Sensei freaks out and looks down at her stockings. By the time she looks up, Sayoko and Tsukasa are running away.

Sayoko used to sing alto in her music class. She doesn't hate it, but she feels like there could be something more exciting...

Tsukasa tells Sayoko that she heard Mika Sensei is quitting school. Sayoko says that she heard the same thing and that she heard Mika Sensei's getting married. Tsukasa starts riding a bicycle as Sayoko rides on the back. Hiroyuki (Tsukasa's cousin), at baseball practice, sees Tsukasa taking his bike and yells at her for taking his bike again. Tsukasa tells him that she'll leave it at Sayoko's house. Sayoko looks at Hiroyuki as he's blushing. Sayoko asks Tsuakasa if Hiroyuki might possibly like Tsukasa. She tells Sayoko that there's no way because they're cousins. Then Sayoko asks Tsukasa if she were a guy, if she would date Sayoko. Tsukasa lectures her to stop saying things like that because all the guys think that they're together. Sayoko sighs and wishes she could see Senpai.

At Sayoko's house, the cute guy, Oota, thanks Sayoko's brother, Tatsuya, for letting him stay at his house. Tatsuya tells him it's no problem. They go into the house as Sayoko and Tsukasa are playing around. Tatsuya introduces Sayoko and Tsukasa to Oota. Sayoko and Tsukasa both stop and look up at Oota. Sayoko's heart thumps and she thinks, Something more interesting.

Sayoko talks to her brother, while he's changing in his room, and he tells her that Oota's his Senpai from before. Sayoko cannot believe her brother has such a good-looking friend. Tatsuya tells her that Sayoko doesn't know him and that even he hasn't seen him in 9 years. Sayoko asks if Oota used to live here. Tatsuya hesitates with the answer a little and tells her yes.

Oota asks Tsukasa what grade she's in and figures she's in junior high with her uniform. Tsukasa tells Oota that he looks like the guy Sayoko used to like.

Sayoko comes running back to Tsukasa and tells her that Oota staying at her house for awhile and he came to visit from Tokyo. Tsukasa leaves. As she is walking home, she has a serious look on her face.

Oota and Tatsuya are having a conversation in a room. Sayoko wants to go in, but is a little nervous to. She starts to go in one time, but sees Oota look at her and runs away. Her brother tells Oota that she's a little weird and Oota asks him if his sister is part of the rabbit group. Tatsuya tells him that she might be. Oota laughs and tells Sayoko to come in and play with them. Sayoko turns red.

Hiroyuki gets to Sayoko's house and retrieves his bike. He hears Sayoko, Tatsuya, and Oota having fun and tries to peek in through the window. Sayoko's mother comes outside and sees Hiroyuki and asks him if he wanted to talk to Sayoko. Hiroyuki panicks and tells her that he just came to get his bike and leaves.

At school, Sayoko tells Tsukasa how much fun she had with Oota and her brother playing cards. She even has a nickname for Oota, which is Oochan. Tsukasa gets a little annoyed and makes a sarcastic comment about Oochan playing cards when he's already 25. Sayoko tells Tsukasa to play with them today, but Tsukasa tells her that there's no way a 25-year-old man is going to play with 13-year-old kids everyday. Sayoko is a little down, but she looks out the window and sees Oochan! Tsukasa can't believe it. Her and Tsukasa run out to greet him and ask him what he wants. Oochan tells them that he thought they could all have lunch together. Tsukasa comments on how Oochan has no life and Oochan smiles and tells her to shut up. Tsukasa and Sayoko are both taken away by Oochan's smile and this makes Sayoko smile too.

Mika Sensei comes charging into Sayoko's classroom and announces that she's going to make her come to practice today. Some students tell her that Sayoko already left with some guy that's a Senpai of Sayoko's brother. Mika Sensei looks at them a little suprised. Hiroyuki tells her that they're outside and points to them. Mika Sensei sees Sayoko and Tsukasa with Oota. Oota looks up at the window where Mika Sensei is out and she panicks, gets away from the window and goes up against the wall. Hiroyuki sees how pale and shocked and Mika Sensei looks.

Sayoko, Tsukasa, and Oochan are eating lunch at a pond. Sayoko is having fun finding pond snails and Oochan tells her to hurry up and eat. Sayoko finds out that Oochan's in a band and tells him how awesome it is. Oochan tells her that he can't eat much of it, tho. Tsukasa makes another sarcastic comment about him not making it. Oochan laughs, touches her head and tells her to shut up. Tsukasa is suprised at how nice Oochan is.

On their way home, Sayoko tells Oochan about the Senpai she used to like. She tells him that she had no chance because he already had a beautiful girlfriend, so she got rejected before knowing it. She also tells him that Tsukasa scolds her for picking ignorant love interests. Oochan tells Sayoko that it's not a waste to like someone if you thought it could've been great between the two of you at least once. He says, "You'll remember when you're an adult". Sayoko looks up at him and thinks about what a mysterious person Oochan is. She looks at his eyes and thinks they kind of look like her Senpai's.

In class, Sayoko sighs really loud and Tsukasa tells her to stop it. Sayoko tells her that she's sad because she was just thinking that Oochan's not going to stay in town forever. She wonders if Oochan will decide to stay in town or if Sayoko should go to Tokyo. Tsukasa slams her magazine down and gets mad at Sayoko and tells her to stop talking about "if"s and "maybe"s. She leaves to go use the restroom. Sayoko is shocked at how mad Tsukasa is and tells herself that she knows none of those things will happen anyway and mumbles to herself that she's not dumb.

At dinner, Sayoko notices that there's a bowl of rice missing for Oochan and tells her mom so. Her mom tells her that Oochan went to his family's house. Sayoko's mom is mad at Tatsuya for having Oochan stay over for so long when he has his family here. Tatsuya explains that Oochan has his reasons. Sayoko's mom tells him that Oochan can't stay in their house for much longer. Sayoko gets mad and asks her mom why she's being so stingy. Her dad interrupts and asks her if she was playing at the pond with Oochan. She tells him yes and her dad lectures her not to hang around with guys she doesn't really know because she doesn't know what kind of person he could be. Sayoko gets really mad and can't believe everybody is bad-mouthing Oochan!

Tsukasa calls Sayoko later on and tells her that she's coming over to return Sayoko's notes. While Sayoko is waiting in her room, she hears a rock being thrown at her window and looks outside. It's Oochan and his face is all beaten up! She becomes pale and asks him what happened. Oochan just asks her to bring down a medical kit quietly without her parents finding out. Sayoko brings down a medical kit and Oochan laughs and tells her that he got beat up by his dad. He sees that Sayoko is in shock, so he touches her head and apologizes to her for scaring her. Sayoko asks him why his dad beat him up and if Oochan did something bad. Oochan smiles and tells her that he did do something bad. He fell in love with a girl he wasn't supposed to and her parents were against it, so they hid their relationship. But in the end, the girl got pregnant and they were only in junior high. Sayoko's heart thumps in shock. Oochan goes on to say that his dad told him that Oochan's a disgrace to the family. Sayoko can't say anything to Oochan. Oochan smiles and tells Sayoko that she looks like the girl he used to like. Sayoko is flattered. From afar, Tsukasa, watches Sayoko and Oochan.

At school, a couple of girls tell Hiroyuki that they saw Tsukasa and Sayoko fighting. Sayoko is chasing after Tsukasa and asks her what's wrong. She catches Tsukasa and is shocked to see her crying. Tsukasa tells her that she didn't mean to get mad, but she got so sad after she saw Sayoko and Oochan together. She asks Sayoko if Oochan is leaving. Sayoko realizes that Tsukasa was in love with Oochan and has some flashbacks of her getting angry. Sayoko starts to cry too and thinks, We know how powerless we are. That we don't have the hands to save him or hold him. That he has feelings that we can't compete against either.

Sayoko and Tsukasa go up to the rooftop. Sayoko wonders, out loud, if Oochan came back for the girl he was in love with. Hiroyuki joins them and tells them that he knows who Oochan came for and tells them that it's Mika Sensei.

Oochan walks into Sayoko's school and one of the teachers try to stop him. Oochan ignores him and walks right up to Mika. Mika is suprised to see Oochan.

Sayoko can't believe Mika is the one because she remembers Oochan telling her that he loved someone he wasn't supposed to love. Hiroyuki tells her that Mika and Oochan are cousins. He goes on to say that Mika's dad was the landlord, so everybody acted like they didn't know anything and just kicked Oochan out of town. Sayoko tells him that there's one more catch: that Mika is getting married. Hiroyuki explains that she's going to marry someone that's a member of the Diet (a national or local legislative assembly), meaning she was forced into it by her parents.

Oochan tells Mika that he has come for her. Mika and Oochan both fling off the teachers trying to stop them and hug each other.

Sayoko gets up and tells Tsukasa that they're going to go talk to Mika Sensei. They see some students talking about something and ask them what's going on. The students tell them that Mika Sensei ran off with some guy that had a blue sunvisor on. Sayoko realizes that it's Oochan! She tells Tsukasa that they're gonna go chase after them. Tsukasa hesitates and tells her that it's okay. Sayoko tells her that it's not okay because this might be the last time she sees him. Tsukasa and Sayoko run off together.

Sayoko predicts that Oochan is at the train station trying to leave with Mika Sensei. They see Mika's dad at the train station too. They all run to the platform and see Oochan and Mika on a train together. Mika's dad runs towards them and tries to stop them, but Sayoko and Tsukasa grab onto them so they can't go any further. Oochan is suprised to see them and calls out their names. Sayoko looks at Oochan, crying, and says her farewell. The train door shuts and they're gone.

Sayoko's life went back to normal and same routine starts again. Her Senpai comes after her and asks if she's going to skip practice again. Sayoko makes a lame excuse telling her that her brother has a severe case of nervous disorder and has the chicken pox. Her Senpai tells her to stop lying. Tsukasa comes up and tells her Senpai that her fastner's open. While she's panicking about this, Sayoko and Tsukasa take off. They steal Hiroyuki's bike again and Tsukasa tells him that she'll leave it at Sayoko's house. Hiroyuki looks at them with his face red. Hiroyuki starts chasing after them and yells that he likes Sayoko. Sayoko is stumped and cannot believe Hiroyuki was infatuated with her this whole time! She remembers Oochan's words: "You'll remember when you're an adult".
