Six Tips for a Successful Marriage
1. Never Yell! (Unless there is a fire.)
Some people were raised in a home where there was yelling and fighting, and so they pass that habit on to the next generation. But, do you like listening to your spouse yell at you? I would bet you could settle the matter more quickly with a gentle answer than with rage.
2. Speak words that build each other up."There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword,
But the tongue of the wise promotes health." (Pro. 12.18)
3. Help out around the house.
Be an asset, not a liability.
4. Have a Family Day.
Set aside one day a week when you go out as a family (or a couple), and do something fun together. If you have children, have someone watch them once in a while, so the two of you can have time alone.
5. Guard yourself against infidelity.
Don't even consider it."Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding;
He who does so destroys his own soul." (Pro. 6.32)
6. Believe that when you get married, God joins the two of you together with lifelong bonds.
"So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." (Mt. 19.5)
Putting these six tips into practice will have amazing results. A little kindness can go a long way. Hold on to your family with a tight grip. Don't run away when things get tough (or when they get boring). Seek to put a little fun back into your marriage.
